Molecular Biology

The field of molecular biology involves studying the structure and interactions of various systems within a cell that are essential to normal function and maintenance, with a key area being to increase our understanding of the inter-relationship between DNA, RNA and protein synthesis.

The techniques used in molecular biology are many and varied, and span multiple disciplines. They include, but are not limited to, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction enzyme digests, cloning, bacterial transformation, transfection, RNAi, FISH, CRISPR, gel electrophoresis and blotting. We offer an extensive range of molecular biology reagents from our carefully chosen suppliers, all of which are designed to streamline research through the generation of high quality data. We’ve showcased just some of these suppliers here:

Biosearch Technologies

A division of the LGC Group, Biosearch Technologies is a global leader in the design, development, and manufacture of custom oligonucleotide-based tools and associated reagents. These include Stellaris® RNA FISH probe sets and buffers for RNA visualization, allowing simultaneous detection, localization, and quantification of individual mRNA molecules at the cellular level in fixed samples, in addition to dual labelled BHQ® probes and BHQplus® probes for qPCR.

While the dual labelled BHQ® probess are traditional, linear FRET probes, incorporating a fluorophore and quencher covalently attached to the 5' and 3' ends of an oligo, BHQplus® is a novel, compact probe that permits the design of shorter oligonucleotides (typically 15 - 25 bases in length) for detecting more difficult target sequences.

Biosearch Technologies also offers custom oligos composed of DNA, RNA and even DNA/RNA hybrid sequences, affording rapid turn-around times and competitive rates.

MoBiTec

MoBiTec offers a wide variety of products for genomics and proteomics research, including vector systems (Bacillus, yeast, E.coli, Lactococcus and mammalian expression systems, in addition to other vectors), and proteomics products such as enzymes, gel staining reagents, magnetic beads, kits for protein labelling and purification, and more besides.

The genomics range is broad and includes products for nucleic acid purification and isolation, PCR and sequencing products, competent cells, transfection reagents and kits, and products for labelling nucleic acids.

The company also provides high quality Antibodies, Peptides, Fluorescence Technology, and a diversity of Molecular Biology Reagents.

Cellecta

The primary aim of Cellecta is to develop advanced high-throughput RNAi and CRISPR technologies and their applications for the discovery and functional characterisation of novel therapeutic targets and drugs.

Services offered by the company include CRISPR/RNAi genetic screening, custom pooled lentiviral libraries, engineered custom cell lines and the high sensitivity DriverMap™ expression profiling service, while products comprise CellTracker™ barcoding to facilitate studies by labelling cells with a stable heritable marker, CRISPR products, shRNA knockdown reagents, and lentiviral vectors, in addition to many others.

GenScript

GenScript affords a comprehensive portfolio of life sciences research services and products including, for molecular biology, ExpressPlus™ PAGE gels, PCR reagents, and the GenCrispr range of CRISPR products.

PCR reagents include DNA ladders, multiple DNA polymerases, QuickClean II PCR extraction kits, dNTP mixes, plasmid mini prep kits and more, while GenCrispr includes various Cas9 nucleases, sgRNA synthesis kits, sgRNA screening kits and Mutation Detection kits.

Real Time Primers

This company aims to provide a cost-effective approach to validate NGS or microarray data and quantitative gene expression using rtPCR assays, and offers Pathway PCR primer libraries for the cost-effective performance of multiple PCR arrays for an extensive range of pathways or organisms.

Real Time Primers also include rtPCR primer sets, housekeeping gene primer sets, qPCR master mixes, and cDNA synthesis kits amongst their portfolio; their products have been cited in an impressive number of publications..

Vivantis

Vivantis specialises in the production of restriction enzymes, DNA extraction kits, DNA amplification reagents and other related molecular biology products. Their product portfolio includes DNA ladders, markers, nucleic acids and nucleotides, as well as polymerases, modifying enzymes, dyes and ready-made buffers.

In addition, Vivantis offer ViPrimePLUS rtPCR kits and master mixes for a variety of applications including the detection of contaminating microbial genomes in clinical samples.
